Updates!

Hey what’s going on ASB lovers!?

LAST TWO WEEKS OF SCHOOL. CRAZY CRAZY CRAZY.

So anyways, the two of us have been working hard on doing as much as can before winter break hits. As of right now, we have some really great places to go check out when we’re done volunteering at Food & Friends everyday (FYI- we will be working with the organization every day from 9-2). We’re still trying to figure out details for housing and meals, but we’re confident we can get things done before winter break. We’ll keep you updated!

Aside from the actual site, we thought it’d be good idea to educate you more on the issue area HIV/AIDS. Pronounced hiv-ah-dees, this issue area is one of most underlooked issues in the nation. When people think about HIV or AIDS, most think of those suffering in Africa. Though there are many cases of AIDS in Africa, it is also a major problem here in the United States, especially in the United States. At the end of 2006, an estimated 1.1 million persons in the United States were living with diagnosed or undiagnosed HIV/AIDS. Since it broke out in the 80’s and has continued to grow, it has evolved into an epidemic. For every 100,000 Washington D.C. residents over the age of 12, there are nearly 3,000 people living with HIV or AIDS. This is a staggering amount and is a higher rate than West Africa. There’s so much to learn about this issue area, so if you’re interested in learning more about it, the CDC has lots of information, as well as checking out this site: http://www.avert.org/usa-statistics.htm. Also learn more about Food & Friends here: http://www.foodandfriends.org/site/pp.asp?c=ggLMIYOGKrF&b=3747191

Fun Facts:

So the two of us are huge fans of the TV show Friends. We both own all the seasons, have seen each episode at least five time. Healthy obsession? Yep, we think so. By the way, Zach has Unagi and Eddie likes to pivot (there’s something for you Friends fans to laugh about).

I know all of you are itching to sign up for our trip, but remember, ONLINE REGISTRATION starts at 8am on January 31st. Which’ll be right around the corner after winter break, so prepare yourself! Enjoy the weekend and try and stay warm. (Crazy saying that, with snow falling later today and 70 degree weather on Thursday…oh New England…)
